At HANDFUL, we believe in the power that happens when time, space, and clay come together. Who is it for?
Our residency is created for ceramic artists and designers who have been shaping with clay for several years and wish to deepen and share their practice within a mindful, supportive environment.
We welcome applications from ceramic artists who:
-
Are eager to deepen or evolve their practice. You might be in early, mid, or established phases — we care more about passion, clarity, and commitment than credentials.
-
Desire time and space for experimentation — to try new forms, techniques, or ideas without pressure.
-
Are open to exchange — giving & receiving feedback, sharing your process, perhaps hosting a talk or collaborative moment with others. If doing an exhibition or artist talk, we ask for your help with planning and possibly promotion.
-
Respect clay, process, and the slower rhythms of making. We are looking for artists that can respect studio protocols (cleaning, safety, shared tools), and collaborate in creating a supportive atmosphere.
How to apply?
We review applications on a rolling basis, so you’re encouraged to apply ahead of when you hope to start. We will notify selected artists within a few weeks of application, and send all necessary details regarding studio access, logistics, materials, etc.
Please send us:
-
A short bio (who you are, your practice).
-
Artist statement or project idea — what you want to explore during your stay, what drew you to HANDFUL, how you hope to grow.
-
Portfolio of recent work (images, links, etc.).
-
Your preferred duration (1-6 months) and ideal start date.
Drop us a message at love(at)handfulceramics.com with your application materials. We’re excited to hear about your work, your dreams for this residency, and how you might flourish at HANDFUL
