Sculpting the Hidden Self into Masks
Connect with your shadow and give it a face in this meditative ceramic experience.
Service Description
The price includes VAT (19%), teaching, materials and firing costs for one bowl. There will be no additional costs. Language: German / English based on needs of the participants What to expect? A transformative one-time ceramic workshop designed for adults to explore their inner selves. The session begins with a clay meditation to connect with your hidden 'shadow' side, followed by a hands-on session where you will give that energy a face by creating a unique mask as a wall relief. In Jungian psychology (Originator: Carl Jung), the Persona is the social face we show the world, while the Shadow contains repressed, instinctual, or unintegrated aspects of the self. Creating a wall-relief mask allows participants to reverse the traditional role of a mask. Instead of hiding behind a social facade, we project our internal, unacknowledged inner world outward into physical form. We draw inspiration from West African Rituals, Ancient Mesoamerican Clay Masks, Noh Theatre & Hannya Masks as well as art history with an eye on Expressionism & Primitivism. Who is it for ? This workshop is designed for curious adults, creatives, seekers, and anyone looking to reconnect with themselves through tactile creation. No prior experience with clay, art-making, or meditation is required, just an open mind and a willingness to explore. Firing the created ceramics: The ceramics are dried and fired by the course leader, Anke Buchmann weeks after the session. There is no glazing needed. If you prefer your masked to be glazed (shiny ceramic colours) you are welcome to visit during drop-in hours to glaze your mask yourself (15€/hr + firing costs 10€/kg). You can pick up your fired ceramics during the studio open hours (within 1 month after the workshop). Participant Preparation & Safety Guidelines Attire: Comfortable clothing that can get dirty, short/trimmed fingernails (recommended for working with clay). Emotional Safety / Disclaimer: This workshop uses artistic expression for self-discovery and creative exploration. It is not a substitute for clinical psychotherapy.
