Wheel Throwing - Group (4 Sessions)

Service Description

The price includes VAT (19%), teaching, materials and access to throwing wheel. (Firing costs will be calculated based on the weight of the created pieces.) All appointments: 8 Jan & 9 Jan (throwing) 14 Jan (trimming) / 21 Jan (glazing) This is a pottery beginner's workshop in the Berlin studio. During this class you will learn: - preparing the clay to get it ready for throwing - centering the clay to gain control of your clay on the wheel - throwing a cylinder to gain momentum and height - shaping a vessel to create based on your ideas - trimming for fine tuning the vessels - finally glazing the fired ceramic object to give it a colour and shine and make it food-safe and ready for use. No previous skills or experience are required. This is a small class with maximum 3 people, which gives you the chance to practice on your own wheel and get immediate feedback und support from the tutor. The class can be held in english or german, based on the participants language skills. The work you created will be fired in the studio by the tutor. Firing costs come on top of the price (18€/kg including bisque and glaze firing). The course: During the sessions, the focus is put on the clay experience, material knowledge and basic skills on the wheel. The created work is then dried, fired and will be glazed by you. After the glaze firing you then can picke up your ceramics. This session is perfect for everyone who wants to learn the basic understanding on the potters wheel. After the course you can book the throwing wheel per hour to improve your skills by practicing individually. Special conditions: Also please be aware, that throwing with long fingernails can turn out to be extra challenging. I suggest to come with cut nails. In terms of cloth it is advisable to wear comfortable cloth, that can be washed at 40*C and shoes that are easy to clean. Better you leave to your dress and high heels at home. The workshop is aimed primarily at adults, but is suitable for people starting from the ages of 14. If you have back-problems throwing on the potters wheel might be challenging for you.
